VITA – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

VITA flyerUnited Way Galveston County Mainland has again joined with the IRS to provide the annual VITA/TCE Free Tax Programs. The VITA program offers free tax help to low-to moderate-income families (household income less than $52,000) who cannot prepare their own tax returns and individuals who are elderly or disabled. Certified volunteers receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. Our site offers free electronic filing (e-filing). Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in about half the time compared to returns filed on paper. Please share this information with your employees, clients or anyone in the community who might benefit from this free service (they do not need to live in Galveston County).   We are also in need of volunteers, no tax preparation experience is necessary. Training will be provided free of cost, for more information please contact Leslie or Betty at 409-948-4211. Galveston County VITA program stats for 2012 Tax Season:
  • 736 federal tax returns completed & filed to date in Galveston County
  • Brought a total of $1,118,069 in federal refunds back to the community
  • VITA clients received more than $461,976 in eligible credits (earned income credit, additional child tax credit)
