Students take lead of United Way programs

Published Monday, May 20, 2013 By ALEX MACON for The Galveston County Daily News IMG_1729A United Way advisory board of high school students from around the county has launched a Book Buddies project to encourage children to read and improve their language skills. The students have collected books, mostly children’s classics, and recorded themselves reading the books onto MP3 players. The books and recordings will be delivered to Head Start centers and preschool programs in low-income areas around the county, said Lindsey White, assistant executive director at United Way Galveston County Mainland.
