The City of Texas City Senior Program

The City of Texas City Department of Recreation & Tourism welcomes citizens 55 and older to the Senior Citizens Program.  The purpose of this program is to provide our aging citizens with fun and exciting activities to enhance quality of life and to encourage and promote fitness to maintain overall health.  This program provides its members with resources such as transportation to and from doctor's appointments, picking up prescriptions, and grocery shopping.   All resources are provided at no cost to our members.

This program was established in 1977 for citizens age 55 and older. This program continues today to focus on the needs and well-being of seniors in this  community.

The Nessler Center Senior Citizen Program is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed on city holidays). The center is one of five Nutrition Sites in Galveston County providing senior citizens with a nutritious meal. (Donations are encouraged.)

Activities include lunch, dominoes, bingo (42 players), arts and crafts, board games, fellowship, movies with popcorn, reading, picnics, field trips and celebrations for special occasions and holidays.
