2015 Student United Way Leadership Retreat Recap

On Thursday, September 10, 2015, we headed to Washington, D.C. for the Annual Student United Way Leadership Retreat. Our group (12 students from 2 Galveston County high schools) was on a quest to learn as much as possible about making a difference in our communities. We joined 29 Student United Way Clubs for a weekend of inspiration and idea sharing. Officers from the Clear Springs High School Student United Way and the Texas City High School Student United Way made us proud at this Retreat! Being in Washington, D.C. on 9/11 added another layer of meaning to this trip for us. Watch the video below to see what happened when a group of Student United Way Club members from Texas City High School and Clear Springs High School began to sing "God Bless America" in the Lincoln Memorial. Before the second verse began, the song had caught on and every single person in the Lincoln Memorial had joined in. This was an incredibly moving moment and a touching reminder of how United we all are, despite our differences. Check out their Tweets below for a recap of the whole weekend, as seen through the eyes of our Students.
